Hi all ... what a great blog idea. I have three bunnies and am an obsessive knitter. I am also chairing an auction for the Best Little Rabbit Rodent and Ferret Shelter. I am looking for any ideas of things to knit of make for the auction. I'm working on the little felted bunny booties from fiber trends (I forgot I have the pattern til I saw it knitted up here). I also have an angora baby bunny slipper from an old martha stewart magazine (I think there was a little tie on bunny ear hat). Suggestions and encouragement greatly appreciated!

Thought you all might get a great kick out of this tweak on the Fuzzyfeet pattern created by Theresa Vinson Stenersen for Knitty. I am even more amazed that she was able to felt white Lamb's Pride!

Since we just cannot have a post without pictures, I am shamelessing showing my faceless Fiber Trends Felted Bunny. Sporting a pair of baby "shoes" knitted out of Berroco Suede, he has yet to tell me how to make his face up!

While my family and I were traveling through Ukiah, California this summer, I managed to get a few minutes of yarn shopping in at Heidi's Yarn Haven, a friendly, yarn-packed shop located right downtown. They had these bunny slippers on display, and I just had to buy the Fiber Trends pattern and yarn for them right then and there. I knit them in less than a week, which is pretty good for me since I am easily distracted. They are extremely impractical, but I think they're darling. I have another view of them on the August 12 entry of my blog.

I knitted this bunny for my son, Anthony (age 3)--he carefully put him in the bowl with the eggs I knitted as well. (The eggs are from www.curlypurly.com/eggs.html.) I used Lamb's Pride wool, size 8 dpn for the bunny, and some cheap cotton yarn for the eggs (also knit on the same dpns).

The bunny is Jess Hutch's pattern, and I added the tail and whiskers. I was pretty happy with the way it came out, although next time I won't stuff the arms as much--they stick out too much!

I am almost done with my next bunny, in a different pattern . . .

My first 3-d needlefelting project. He's pretty small... only about 2.5" from nose to tail. I made him up as I went, and tried not to bleed directly on the poor bunny as I stabbed the heck out my finger a few times. Fun!

I wasn't really happy with how this bunny came out - for me it's all about the eyes - but other people just love it (her)? I think it's because of the yarn - it's Sirdar Snuggly - a bit of a nuisance to knit with but comes out lovely and soft, the stitches don't really show. She is an Alan Dart pattern.
I get embarassed when I show people that I not only knit bunnies - I pose them in the garden for their pictures!

I made bags for my stepkids and then needlefelted some designs on them. One wanted a bunny sniffing a flower. I whipped this out before we ran out the door to return them. It turns out I perform well under pressure - I'm very happy with the results! I also made them those start-with-a-square bunnies, but since so many people have posted pics of those I didn't bother. Needlefelting is supereasy - try it!

and I'm currently on a bit of a toy knitting kick and a bunny fan.

This is a picture of the toy I've made for a friend's little girl. It is a fluffy bunny that was alot of fun to make, and not very hard. The only problem was that this yarn was a bit thin for guage and hence the bunny was a bit "holey" which I remided by darning the holiest bits.

Looking at these pictures it seems I might still do a bit of darning on the feet so the stuffing doesn't show through.

I also made a dress for her based very roughly on the dress in the book

It looks awfully homemade, but it was my first toy (other than catnip mousies!)I hope the little girl will like her.

The book she was made from was quite fun, and I plan to try a few more toys from it - "Knitted Toys" by Fiona McTague", which I got from the library.

The 3 year old little girl who recieved the toy seemed to like her very well, and she has christened my creature
"Bunny Bunny" - the bunny so nice she named it twice? I hope so!! haha.

Since then I've used the same yarn, Bernat "Symphony " I believe it is called ( a faux mohair type of acrylic yarn..) to knit other toys and have had much more success with doubling the yarn to knit with, usuing around 6 mm or so needles - it is a really nice yarn for a toy I think - nice and soft but still easy to knit as it has puffy fluffies instead of eye-straining "fur" type yarn...

One area I'd like to improve or vary more in my toys is the facial expressions which are done with embroidery, something I'm inexperienced at. Any pointers or good links from you bunny alonger-ers?

I do have some of those "teddy bear eyeballs" but as you all know, you don't want to use those on things for small kids as there is a choking danger.

Also, you can really scare people by replying "Do you sell eyeballs?" when they ask if they can help you find something in a store...

He's an amigurumi bunny that I designed just for the spring :D His pattern includes the carrot - I actually have lots and lots of carrots created for this bunny as they actually do double duty as cat toys.

I stuffed some with catnip, as they are about the same size as the catnip mice I can get at the petshop - I think my cats love em with and without catnip, and they especially like the curly carrot tops. LOL.

For a while, I was cranking out these little guys and the house started looking like the set from Wallace & Grommit's Curse of the Wererabbit!

A bun for a baby :)

Desperate for a quick knitted gift, I did up this bunny for a friend's baby.

From the Heartstrings Bunny Pattern and a swatch knit from Lion Brand Homespun, this little bun was born. Unfortunately he was a bit difficult to photograph indoors, so the front on shot is a little dark.

I love how his little ears curl around. I think he'll become a regular in the repertoire as he's quick to churn out and is baby-safe too :) Very important considering the number of baby gifts I need to get together!

Of course, I couldn't leave you without a tail shot :)

I made his tail with some home-made pompom templates. Gotta love a nice fluffy tail :D

I made this sweater last fall for my niece, so it's not technically easter (or pagan bunny worship day as I prefer to call it). This sweater is a combination of a baby cardigan pattern from knitty and some bunnies that I took from another pattern. I added french knot tails to the bunnies.

I'm excited about bunny themed knitting, so I will come up with some other bunnies to add!

Blue Bun

Here are some photographs of Blue Bun. I sat him in the yellow tulips to make him look more Eastery.

He is of course the Small Rabbit from Debbie Bliss's 'Toy Knits', knitted in Sirdar Donegal Tweed DK: his sweater is Lorna's Laces Worsted in Black Watch.

The first sweater I knitted was a bit small so I knitted him another one so that he was decently covered and warm enough. None of the rabbits in that book have tails – why is that? I think I'll have to make him a tail, as I'm giving him as a present and I'm bound to be asked why he doesn't have one. He's going to go and live with my friend Gail.

I'm planning to do the Angel Rabbit as well, and maybe the Ballerina Rabbit, but I have one or two other things on the needles which I should finish first….

Here's a trio of bunnies -my first is on the left - all garter stitch :). He was done quite a while ago when I was still learning how to knit.

The second followed the pattern a little more faithfully, except I think the swatch was bigger to start with. The third, well, let's just say I was trying for that angora look.

Here's one I did in hot pink fuzzy synthetic. She's one of my faves, but I gave her away to a good home.

This is Zeke, a bunny I made for Easter for my stepkids. I bought the pattern from Purple Kitty but modified it quite a bit as I went - especially the ears and tail. His eyes are pearlized lilac buttons. Zeke was not popular with Blackberry, the real bun of the house, and was glad to escape to the other house. He is now quite battered and a lop due to excessive loving. May we all be so lucky! :)

Hi, I'm Shannon! I finally finished one of my bunny projects!

Project: Fuzzy (bunny) Feet care of Knitty.com. Yarn: Knit Picks Elegance in Coal, 2+ balls. Plymouth Bamboo DPN's, size 10. Ears from Stitch and Bitch Nation.

These were pretty quick. Alpaca felts well, but smells like nasty perm solution when wet. Oh, and if you ARE felting Alpaca, do it in a pillow case. I did and I'm really glad. There's fuzzies EVERYWHERE inside it! I'm still not sure if I like where the ears were. The fuzzy bunny tails did not turn out. I've consulted the many pairs of fuzzy bunny slippers I have and can't decide. No nose has been embroidered yet, but will be! DPN's kill me, so these (without the ears) will not be gifts. Too bad.

Raven (my bunny) has figured out that they are me, so no bunny pals for her. However, she has taken to grooming my OTHER bunny slippers (and throwing them around) that are a realistic blue colour :P

Talia's rabbit

So, this is the rabbit I made for my niece Talia's birthday. She'll be three next week.

I used Legs as a jumping off point but made this one a bit larger, with different ears, a fat belly and legs, and a tail (which you can't see in this shot). If I do it again, I'll be more careful about smoothing out the batting in the legs and I'll use a bit less in the belly. As is, my husband swears this rabbit could be off of Newspaper Rock, what with the arms that like to be straight up in the air and the big belly. I can accept that. I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Carrot, and it felted very nicely. I need to embroider a face onto this bunny. Or maybe not.

My Bunny's Story

I finished my bunny. I used the pattern from Last –Minute Knitted Gifts. I used Nature Spun sport weight yarn in color Aran for the body, Nature Spun in color Nordic blue for the eyes, & Patons Divine in color Chantilly Rose for the inner ear and nose. I just used polyfill for the stuffing. This pattern was lots of fun to knit. It was cool how it all came together.

After I was finished my husband was curious as to what I was doing with the bunny all over the house. I told him Bunny was doing his photo shoot. He gave me a strange look and then said “That’s nice dear”.

Bunny’s Story

Bunny joined our family in March of 05. He quickly made himself at home. He enjoys spending time in the back yard and has been known to climb a tree here and there.

Rumor has it that bunny has joined a frog band as lead vocalist and might be planning on touring this summer with his new band mates.

Bunny is desperately afraid of Cosmo and his sharp teeth. Bunny tries to stay very still when Cosmo comes near.

Bunny prefers tea over coffee. He says there is nothing that warms him better than a nice hot cup of tea.

Bunny’s best friend is Brandy. They enjoy spending time together and sharing secrets.

I did! And I finished up the bunny from Jess Hutchison's pattern, using Brown Sheep's Lamb's Pride Worsted Superwash. Or is it Superwash Worsted? I made his legs and arms a bit longer than indicated in the pattern and made the body and head in one piece so I could avoid sewing his head onto his body. Here he is!

I made these bunnies with the HeartStrings FiberArts Easy Bunny pattern from stash yarn. They did turn out to be easy. My first impression was that the blue one looked like one of the rats from Princess Bride and the pink one had ears like Piglet. They both relaxed a little since then. I saw so many fun and cute bunnies out there that I couldn't resist whipping up a few for the monkeys' Easter baskets.

Well - here's three of my odd bunny family. The Heartsting's bunnies were fun and easy to make. I made them pom pom tails of the same yarn as their bodies and they are already off to brighten a toddler's day.

The leggy bunny from schmeebot I made from some wool I had hanging around for 15 plus years. It was pretty moth eaten and tended to fall apart. And obviously because it didn't felt at all it must have been super wash or some such. I like him anyway and have named him Scraps.

I have a few more in the works including one in purple mohair from Kate Gilbert's pattern and another Heartstrings made with green fun fur (yikes!)

Happy Easter Every-bunny!
Yesterday I got really ambitious after seeing Schmeebot's pattern...absolutely loved it! So, I had to try my hand with a couple...check 'em out!
The first one didn't felt very well (the one with the bow), I can't remember the name of the yarn I used.
The second one (the one with the button eyes) I used Cascade 220...I was much happier with the results on this one!

Bunny Eyes

Now they're really, finally, completely done. They still look sad, but the eyes are better. To fix them without ripping any stitches, I cut out felt circles, then cut a small "X" in the center. I "buttoned" the circles onto the eyes, then used a few stitches to tack them down.

I wasn't able to respond to any comments when I showed these before, so here's the lowdown:

I used the Fiber Trends Bunny Fun pattern and Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride wool. They took a little more than one skein each. The eyes are vintage buttons from my collection. They're stuffed with plain old polyfil. Figure about 5 hours to knit, an hour to assemble, an hour for the felting/stuffing process, and an hour to finish.

And no, these bunnies didn't shrink mysteriously ~ they're posed with an ostrich egg!

We have finally completed our Easter bunny, using Kate Gilbert's pattern. It was meant to be a catnip toy for the cat, but he is too cute!

Here's a picture of two finished schmeebot bunnies sitting among the daffodils. The pink bunny's ears I'm particularly enamoured of - I knit the ears in stockingette stitch and this is the reverse side - they curled up to make quite realistic bunny ears. Though perhaps not in the most true to life color...

Dreamy Bunny

Here is my second bunny using the Heartstrings pattern. The yarn is Moda Dea "Dream" in pink. I used #5 needles for the body and made an 11" square and the ears were made with #4 needles. It looked very similar to the bunny pictured on the pattern, but since I added the eyes and nose it looks more like a pig. Oh well. You can't see in the picture, but it has a white cotton tail.

I started the Jess Hutchison bunny on Saturday. I can't believe how quickly she's knitting up. She is a gift for my 6-month-old niece. I already have a request from my sister for one.

Rustica Bunny

This is my 1st project in knitted toy, using Panda Rustica Col. 1.
Perhaps i have used a wrong type of yarn for this project? Or i have very poor skill in making toys. :D
The results is not as what i've been expecting. Hmm... practise makes perfect. Maybe i'll improve my skill in my next toy project, if i find something interesting to knit with in the future.

over the weekend we watched the movie 'torch song trilogy' written by harvey fierstein... the main character loves bunnies, bunnies decorate his walls/dishes... right down to his slippers.

movie was good, but much much more entertaining watching with harvey's commentary, because he gives so much information about his life, & the history of the play

good sunday, everyone! it has taken me a long time to decide on what to knit; today, i have finally succeeded in making something for the bunny knit along.

finger puppet, what could be easier? it took me more time to darn in the ends and to give it a face than to knit the entire bunny.

as i live in a third floor apartment, i have no woodsy environment for props. all i have is a small tub of plastic grass so please bear with me. this next shot is poor but it shows the nice sunday sky.

i have goo-gobs of web space and would be happy to create a directory to hold bunny pictures. you will need to email the photos to me and have them be the size you want for display and give them very specific names including your own would be good, such as " maresmithbunny.jpg " and then i can put them in directory & send you back the url for image source code.

As some of you may notice I did not use the left-over yarn from my mitten project after all. The yarn breaks very easily and the mere thought of using the yarn in this project was just putting me off. So I chose Sandnes Fritidsgarn instead. I’m glad I did because I would have broken the other yarn many many times when making the i-cords.

I used the yarn for stuffing as well. The rabbit was felted in 60 C degrees as I knew from experience that the white colour of this yarn doesn’t felt well. The result was a very sturdy rabbit. He’s also a bit chubbier than his colleague. I suspect that he ate too many Easter eggs while I turned my back away. He says that I just cast on too many stitches while not paying attention to the pattern. Oh, well. Little chubbyness doesn’t hurt a rabbit, does it?

P.S. When I looked out of the window the morning after the rabbit was born I saw these:

Meet Fred and Flora

Somewhere near the end of February, I had the inexplicable urge to make some bunnies. Now I know why: this knit-along was calling to me from the blogosphere, even though I didn't actually find it until this week! lol So here are Fred and Flora. They are actually needle-felted, not knit. The wool is wrapped around pipe cleaners, so they are somewhat poseable. Fred is about six inches tall, and Flora is about five inches tall. I have plans to make a couple more, if I can find some extra time to experiment.

He's the newest family member, but I bet that he won't be the last one! :-)

Check out his pompom at the rear. I've never made such a small pompom before, it was a bit of a struggle.
It was quite fun to make the bunny so I'm thinking of making more. I might do a schmeebot bunny but I ain't got any spare wool at the moment. I've got some cheapo acrylics though so I could make a friend for Pompom...

if i have the magical putting up picture ability, here are the slippers. the long winded story....the short story is this is a pattern from Debbie Bliss Nursery Knits, done in handspun & US #3 needles, sized for 3-6 month old . now i am hoping to take the idea and make a larger version for my 1+ year old grandson. i am wanting to add some grippy something or other on the bottoms for him, so far suggestions include puffy paint & flexible fabric glue such as Aleene's tacky glue. i had imagined some iron on bits. any other suggestions?

I love this pattern - I especially like the way it guides you rather than giving row by row directions. I can see more bunnies in my future! (thank goodness they're just the fiber kind!)

fuzzy bunny butt

all of the bunnies in this knit-a-long were too cute for me to handle, so when i woke up on sunday morning at the ungodly hour of 7 a.m. i thought i'd give the heart strings fiber arts bunny pattern a try.

the whole thing was complete in just under two hours, using a bulky pepto-bismol pink yarn. next time i'll opt for something more fuzzy, and less bulky and see what happens. i love the simplicity of this pattern, and even though i hate sewing, all of my ungainly seams and stitches are on the bunny underside - which makes me feel better.

i have also cast on for one of the schmeebot bunnies, but i am a bit intimidated by the fancy-free pattern. i'll post more if i make any more progress in that arena.

also... this is my first-ever knit-a-long! thanks for having me!

They look so sad! I might redo their eyes.

The best tip I got was to use plastic grocery sacks for the temporary stuffing. For these Fiber Trends patterns, you knit, then felt, then stuff while still wet to retain the shape. When dry, you remove the temporary stuffing, add the face, and restuff.

This is my contribution to the Bunny-A-Long. It's a knitted bunny using a pattern from Heart Strings Fiber Arts. The body is made from a 6 inch stockinette square and the ears are easy enough for a beginner. Knit it in different colors - - it's so cute!

Ok I was just introducing myself. I just started knitting again after a 2 week hiatus due to some major wrist pains. I started the Heartstrings bunny pattern, but I think I chose a poor color (a sort of beige), because at this point w/o ears, the bunny looks like a Sumo wrestler. I'm going to go with it, and turn him into a Sumo wrestler. I think this time I'll choose a different color yarn for my bunny :)

Wet Bunnies

My bunnies are felted, and it only took 30 minutes in the washing machine. Photos are posted at my blog (I'm still having trouble with Blogger and photos).

This Fiber Trends pattern couldn't be easier. The only trouble I had was that I used running stitch instead of whipstitch to baste the opening closed with cotton yarn, and had quite a time removing the stitches after felting.

Now I need to decide: button eyes, or embroidered? Felt backing or not? I will go ahead and try the suggested nose. And as far as further embellishment goes, something tells me they might be better received if they bear a resemblence to Rambo instead of Peter Cottontail.
